Résumé :
Climate scenarios are projections of future climate conditions based on various assumptions about greenhouse gas emissions, socio-economic development, and technological advancements. These scenarios are essential tools for understanding potential future climates and their impacts on human and natural systems. They are particularly useful in assessing hydroclimatic extremes – such as floods, droughts, and heatwaves – by providing insights into how these events may evolve under different climate pathways. This knowledge is critical, as it helps stakeholders anticipate potential risks, design adaptive strategies, and make informed decisions to ensure the sustainable use and management of water resources in a changing climate. The presentation highlights the theoretical concepts of (hydroclimatic) scenarios and illustrates their range, relevance and importance for integrated water resources management showcasing best-case and worst-case examples from North America and Europe.
